A modern garage was built next to the train station in an area that had been protected for about forty years as a Jewish burial site. Now, the building has been “taken over” by immigrants and there seems to be no restrooms in the building because the adjacent area is used for relieving bodily needs. Passer-bys, like this young man, need to close their nose and look carefully where they walk. Few meters down the road at night, in a former residence area inhabited by middle-income families (S.S. Trinita’), prostitution takes over and residents are too scared to go out. Few meters ahead, drug is freely available where there used to be offices of Boy Scouts and Associazione Nazionale Alpini (A.N.A.). No police at sight at any time.

Banfield “Moral Basis of a Backward Society.”
